WHO WE ARE

An independent watchdog for your everyday health choices

Health Choice UK helps ordinary people pick supplements, self-monitoring devices and home-care tools with confidence. We never sell them, never take a cut, and always explain our reasoning in plain English.

Our mission

Walk into any pharmacy, or open any shopping app, and you face shelves of blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, vitamin tablets, daylight lamps and mobility aids — all promising to help. Some are genuinely useful and validated to recognised standards. Many are marketing dressed up as health advice.

Health Choice UK exists to close that gap. We are an independent consumer-health watchdog in the tradition of Which?: we review whole categories of products, explain the standards that actually matter, and tell you what to look for so you can decide for yourself. We don't tell you which brand to buy — we hand you the criteria to judge any brand on the shelf.

We are educational, not a substitute for medical advice. For anything personal — a new symptom, a medication question, whether a device is right for your condition — we will always point you to your GP, your pharmacist, or the NHS, and to official sources such as NICE, the MHRA and the British & Irish Hypertension Society.

Our independence pledge

Independence isn't a slogan for us — it's a set of rules we hold ourselves to:

  • We never sell. There is no shop, no basket and no checkout anywhere on this site.
  • We take no cut. We don't run affiliate links to retailers, and no manufacturer pays for a favourable review or a place in our guides.
  • No named-product hype. We review categories and criteria — not specific brands — so our advice can't double as an advert.
  • Standards over opinions. Where an independent benchmark exists — ISO 15197 for blood glucose meters, the British & Irish Hypertension Society validation list for home blood pressure monitors — we point you to it rather than to ourselves.
  • We show our reasoning. Every verdict explains what we weighed, who it's best for, and what to watch out for.

How we keep ourselves honest

Four working principles sit behind every guide we publish.

1

Category first, brand never

We start from the decision you're actually making — 'which type of blood pressure monitor?' — not from a product someone wants to sell you.

2

Anchored to real standards

We lean on recognised benchmarks: ISO 15197 for glucose meters, the BIHS validated-monitor list for blood pressure, and guidance from NICE, the MHRA and SACN.

3

Plain English, no jargon

If a term needs explaining, we explain it. Health information is only useful if you can act on it.

4

Signpost, don't diagnose

For personal decisions we send you to a GP, a pharmacist or the NHS. We inform the choice; we don't make it for you.

Your health. Your decisions. Made well-informed.
Health Choice UK · Our founding promise

Continuing a long tradition

We carry forward the spirit of Consumers for Health Choice, a real UK campaign that spent years defending ordinary people's access to vitamins and supplements — including the 'Save our Supplements' effort that began in the late 1990s and the long fight over the EU Food Supplements Directive. That campaign was rooted in a simple belief: that informed adults have the right to make their own health choices, and that consumers deserve a voice independent of both industry and over-reach.

Our subjects are broader now — home monitoring devices, mobility aids, home-care equipment as well as nutrition — but the principle is unchanged. We're on the consumer's side, every time. You can read more about where we come from on our heritage page.
