Everything we've researched, in one place
Plain-English guides, the latest watchdog updates, your consumer rights, and the funding you may be entitled to — all independent, all evidence-led, and never for sale. We explain the categories and the criteria so you can choose well. We never name a product to sell it.
Four desks, one mission
Whatever you came here to do — learn, check the latest, know your rights, or find help paying for it — start here.
In-depth guides & explainers
Long-form, criteria-first pieces on monitoring devices, supplements, mobility aids and home-care kit. We tell you what to look for, not what to buy.

Recalls, standards changes and regulator alerts that affect what's on the shelf — MHRA notices, NICE guidance, validation-list updates.

Plain-English guides to your rights when a device fails, a label misleads, or a 'health claim' doesn't add up — and who to complain to.

Informational guides to NHS support, VAT relief on disability aids, and the Disabled Facilities Grant for home adaptations. We signpost; we don't process claims.

A taste of what's inside — each one written criteria-first, with the standards and figures that actually matter in the UK.
Choosing a blood pressure monitor
Why an upper-arm cuff beats a wrist device, and why 'validated by the BIHS' is the only label worth trusting. The NHS doesn't recommend wrist or finger monitors.
Read the guide MONITORINGPulse oximeters & skin tone
The MHRA warns oximeters can read 0.6–1.5 points high on darker skin. We explain why you watch the trend, not a single number, and when 94% matters.
Read the guide NUTRITIONChoosing vitamins & minerals
How to read an RNI, spot inflated claims, and decide what's worth taking. Vitamin D is the one supplement the NHS actually advises for UK winters.
Read the guide HOME CAREHydration thickeners & oral nutrition
The IDDSI framework, levels 0–7, decoded. Why getting the thickness right is a safety issue, and what a prescription on the ACBS list covers.
Read the guide HOME CARESAD daylight lamps
What '10,000 lux' really means, why UV-free and a CE/UKCA mark are non-negotiable, and why the NHS won't supply one on prescription.
Read the guide HOME CAREAir purifiers & water filtration
What the HEPA 'H13' grade (99.95% at 0.3 microns, EN 1822) does and doesn't promise — and when a cheaper grade is genuinely enough.
Read the guideHow to use this hub well
Four habits that turn our research into a confident decision of your own.
Start with the category, not the cart
Read the criteria guide for the type of product first. Knowing what 'good' looks like protects you from marketing on any individual model.
Check the standard, not the star rating
For blood pressure: BIHS validation. For lamps: UV-free + CE/UKCA. For purifiers: a genuine H13 HEPA rating. A standard is harder to fake than a review.
Know your funding before you spend
Many disability aids are VAT-free, and home adaptations may be covered by a Disabled Facilities Grant. Check entitlement before paying full price.
Take personal decisions to a professional
We explain the options. For anything about your own health, ask your GP, pharmacist or the NHS — that's a feature of our advice, not a gap in it.
We're a watchdog, not a shop. Health Choice UK takes no commission and names no products to sell them — we continue the spirit of Consumers for Health Choice, the UK campaign for evidence-based consumer access to vitamins, supplements and self-directed health. Everything here is educational and is not medical advice. For decisions about your own treatment, speak to a GP, pharmacist or the NHS, and check official sources such as NICE, the MHRA, the NHS and the British & Irish Hypertension Society.
About the resources desk
Why don't you name specific products or brands?
Because the moment a watchdog names a 'best buy', it becomes a marketing channel. We review categories and the criteria that separate good from poor — validation lists, safety marks, filtration grades — so you can judge any product yourself, including ones we've never seen.
Do you make money if I buy something you mention?
No. We carry no shop links, no affiliate codes and take no cut. That independence is the whole point of the site.
Can you tell me whether a device is right for my condition?
No — and you should be wary of anyone who would without examining you. We explain how a category works in general; for your personal situation, your GP, pharmacist or NHS 111 is the right call.
How current are your figures?
We cite UK sources — NHS, SACN, MHRA, NICE, GOV.UK and the BIHS — and revisit guides when standards or guidance change. News of those changes lands on our News desk.
Ready to choose with confidence?
Pick the category you're weighing up and read the criteria first. No hype, no hard sell — just what to look for and where to get help paying for it.
