Practical, independent help for the people who need it most
Health Choice UK is a non-commercial consumer-health watchdog. We don't sell anything and we don't take a cut — we explain. Whether you're living independently in later life, caring for someone you love, or managing a long-term condition, our plain-English guides help you choose supplements, self-monitoring devices and home-care tools with confidence.
Three readers, three sets of needs
Most of what we review matters to all three groups — but each comes to a decision from a different place. Here's who we help, and what each of you tells us you need from a guide.
Older adults at home
Around 30% of over-65s living at home have at least one fall a year, rising to 50% over 80 — and roughly 60% of injurious falls happen indoors. We focus on what genuinely reduces risk and supports independence: validated blood-pressure monitors, well-lit rooms, sturdy walkers and rollators, and assistive tech that's actually easy to use.

5.8 million people in the UK provide unpaid care, and 1.7 million give 50+ hours a week. You're often buying on someone else's behalf, under time pressure. We cut the jargon on home-care kit — from enteral feeding and thickeners (and what IDDSI levels mean) to nebulizers and air purifiers — so a quick read gives you a confident decision.

At least a quarter of UK adults live with more than one long-term condition. Day-to-day self-monitoring is central to staying well at home. We explain what makes a blood-glucose meter, pulse oximeter or smart scale trustworthy — and which accuracy standards (ISO 15197, ISO 81060-2) and BIHS validation to look for.

Whoever you are, the same principles run through every guide. This is the promise behind the badge.
Independence, always
No products sold, no affiliate links, no brand on our payroll. We continue the spirit of the original Consumers for Health Choice campaign: your right to choose, well-informed.
Categories and criteria, not named brands
We review types of device and what to look for — accuracy standards, cuff fit, ease of use — not a single 'best buy' that goes out of date or suits a sponsor.
Evidence over hype
We lean on NHS, NICE, MHRA, SACN and the British & Irish Hypertension Society — and we signpost them so you can check our working.
Plain British English
Short sentences, no marketing fog. If a term matters (RNI, HEPA, IDDSI, lux), we explain it once and move on.
If a tool is poorly evidenced, hard to use, or sold on fear rather than facts, we'll say so plainly. If it genuinely helps, we'll explain who it suits and what to watch for. We are educational, not a substitute for personal medical advice.
Anyone making a real-world health decision at home and wanting an honest, independent steer before they spend.
We can't advise on your individual health. For personal decisions, speak to your GP, pharmacist or the NHS — we'll always point you there.
Not sure which group you're in? Most people are in more than one.
“We don't tell you what to buy. We give you the standards, the trade-offs and the questions to ask — then trust you to make the call that's right for your life.”
